Now We'll Make the Rafters Ring: Classic and Contemporary Rounds for Everyone
    By Edwin A. Finckel

So I'm sitting here, waiting for my wonderful husband to come home from working late.  He's off work half of tomorrow and the rest of the week!

I am borrowing this really cool book of rounds.  I never knew there were so many rounds compiled in one place.  Jonathan and I were able to sight-sing an easy, medium and difficult one with only a few minutes practice.  We were so proud of ourselves.

I didn't have to teach today, so I got all caught up on housework and email.  There's just a few fun things for tomorrow morning.

I'm thinking of teaching a sewing class for homeschoolers in the spring.  I got kind of excited about it today.

Well, I'd better get freshened up for my hubby.

  • Never Say "Never"

Apparently I'm not finished finishing chairs.

At least this was stain and not paint.

    Jonathan was a significant help.

My parents graciously gave us these chairs which have been languishing in their attic for nigh on 15 years.
The chairs were in great shape, although the instructions were a little hard to make out.

We thought we might send in the survey.

    And finally, the finished product:

Maybe you will get to come enjoy our new chairs soon!

  • Music in Life

This is my newest and smallest student.

She has quite the stack of stuff to sit on.  We sing songs, color pictures, and do a little playing.
She and her brothers also collected roly-polys and tracked dirt into my house.

And here is proof that music has penetrated every part of my life:

I took off my hair rubberband and it assumed the form of a treble clef.

    I've been very busy lately.

Mostly because I've been turning this......................into this.

I have warm cookies again. This time from the inspiration of a blog on the science of cookies.

  • Fall Happenings

Our tree out front made up for its lack of leaves by having them turn a slight color.
This was a day or two after the peak day, and now all the leaves are falling off.

    I finished painting our chairs!!!!

I hope to never do this again.  At least not until I forget how long it took.

We helped out with Trunk or Treat at church.  Jonathan and I dressed up as Aggies.

This is the only picture we took. We were too busy burying bones and handing out candy.

We are also learning the true meaning of "nit-picking."

Hope your days are going as well as mine!

  • Stop Lights/Warm Snickerdoodles, Anyone?

Red, Red, Red, Green, Red, Green, Red, Red, Green*

The typical pattern of lights from my house to work.

Statistically it ought to be more half and half.  Or maybe I just notice the reds more than the greens.

One day I was in a particular rush (not necessarily due to negligence on my part) so I prayed that God would turn the lights green so that I could make it on time.

    Red, Red, Red,
Green, Red, Green, Red, Red, Red

"Why didn't God answer my prayer?" I thought in frustration.

    Then I read this quote:
"I often find that when God doesn't answer a prayer, He wants to expose something in me."

I started to realize how impatient I was being.  Did I have to resent every red light I'm stopped by?

The next day I made sure to leave in plenty of time.  I flipped on some uplifting music (this always helps).

You know what?  I wasn't even noticing the lights until I realized that most of them were green.  It was like God was saying, "I want your attitude to be right, and then I will listen."

He exposed something in me by not letting me have what I wanted.

*These are estimates based on the author's perception and do not necessarily reflect reality
**(apparently I'm not through with this one yet because I still catch lots of red lights)

The Majesty & Glory of Christmas
    By Guest Sanctuary Choir

Life is proceeding as normal; with the majority of activities involving music. Choir, handbells, lessons, lessons, chimes, orchestra, lessons, orchestra, choir, repeat.  That's my schedule with some other stuff like making bread, pilates, and painting chairs thrown in.

There have been a few changes in the house like curtains!

Here is the street view.  Jonathan finished cleaning out the bush on the left and in the process killed a snake! (my hero) It wasn't poisonous though.

The backyard is nice and shady and the swing set came with it.

The nieces and nephews already approve.

We have several big, shady trees.

    That's all for now folks!

    More House Pictures

The dining room table has 3 more chairs yet to be painted.

I'm about ready for a real rug and some pictures on the wall.  The plants add a lot, but in this picture they are outside.

I really like the mirror for teaching about posture and stuff.

    The guest bath                                                       and master

The guitar practice area and bookshelf

    and master bedroom

I took a little video with commentary.  It's not nearly as cute as Amy's latest, but it works.

    Cook Family Vacation

Jonathan's family goes on an annual vacation to the Rio Frio, and this year, since I am a Cook, I got to join them.

This portion of the river was  a stone's throw from our campsite.

Our cute matching tent and chairs

I brought along a Jones tradition of making most meals over a fire.  Nathan honed his pyro skills as well.

Jonathan washed most of the dishes (way to go!).  He agreed that married camping is better.

We played volleyball one night.  This pose looks really great, but that's bnecause it's a pose.  The ball just happened to be flying over.

Cleaning up our campsite and being thankful that the skunk decided not to visit our camp.

Tubing the river was a major event.

The result of the beard-growing effort.  His looked a whole lot better than mine.

We got to witness a real big answer to prayer.  While swimming across one of the deepest sections of the river, Jonathan's ring came off.  We waited for the dust to settle and then the guys searched for about 45 minutes. There were many prayers offered and answered because Jonathan was able to find it again!

We found a nice culvert and took advantage of the acoustics.  It sounded even better in person.

Just to reassure you the girls are drinking root beer.

  • New House

Now for some long-in-coming pictures of the house.

Here is the kitchen before everything was torn out.  That's Nekoda moving the refrigerator all by himself.

Here it is with all of the cabinets torn out.  It didn't take nearly as long for them to come out as it did for them to go back in.

Dad trying to decide how to hide the wires that were in the furdown.

    Jonathan chipping out tile.

and a walk through of the new kitchen.

    and the garage.
